St. Luke's United Methodist Church
We are a downtown church with strong roots in the community.
St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Dubuque, IA is the oldest Methodist church in the state. Its origins trace back to the founding of the city; when Methodist ministers arrived and began work with the miners of the time. Ours is the first congregation of any denomination west of the Mississippi River.
The present church building was built in 1896, and is noted for its collection of Tiffany stained glass windows. It has been called “one of the five finest religious Tiffany collections in the world.”
The church’s Farand and Votey pipe organ required two train cars to bring the parts to Dubuque. It has approximately 1,000 pipes and, at the time of installation, was one of the largest organs in the area.
There’s much more to share so please come visit us for the rest of the story.
